Lakewood Family Tragedy Leaves Three Dead as Teen Daughter Escapes Gunfire

Lakewood, California – A quiet residential street in Lakewood was shaken by a devastating family shooting that left three people dead and one teenage daughter narrowly escaping injury, according to authorities with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies were dispatched to a home in the 5800 block of Lorelei Avenue around 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, after receiving a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. When first responders arrived, they discovered a horrifying scene inside the residence.

According to investigators, 52-year-old Hector Lionel Alfaro, his 48-year-old wife, and their 17-year-old daughter were all found suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper torso. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

Teen Daughter Runs From Home After Gunfire

Authorities confirmed that a 19-year-old daughter, the couple’s eldest child, was inside the home at the time of the shooting and was fired upon but not physically injured. Deputies said she managed to escape the residence and ran outside, visibly shaken and distressed.

“She was extremely distraught when deputies arrived,” officials said during an early morning briefing.

Law enforcement later confirmed that the teen told investigators she had been asleep when she was awakened by the sound of gunshots. According to authorities, her father entered her bedroom and fired multiple shots in her direction, but she was not hit.

She was able to flee the home moments later.

What Investigators Say Happened Inside the Home

Officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said evidence gathered at the scene points to a domestic shooting that ended with the suspect taking his own life.

Investigators believe Alfaro shot and killed his wife and teenage daughter in separate bedrooms before attempting to kill his eldest daughter and then turning the gun on himself.

“There is no outside threat. There is no danger to the community at this point,” authorities emphasized.

A firearm was recovered from inside the home, and deputies confirmed that no additional suspects are being sought.

No Immediate History of Domestic Violence Confirmed

At this stage, officials say it remains unclear whether there was any prior history of domestic violence or police calls connected to the household.

“It is still very early in the investigation,” authorities said. “We have not ruled anything out, and interviews are ongoing.”

The 19-year-old survivor had not yet completed a full interview with detectives at the time of the initial briefing, as investigators prioritized her medical and emotional well-being.

Community Reeling After Rare Act of Violence

Local officials described the shooting as an isolated tragedy in a city that rarely experiences this type of violence.

“This is a tragedy for the City of Lakewood,” authorities said. “Lakewood is one of the safest communities in Los Angeles County, and incidents like this are extremely rare.”

The shooting prompted a temporary law enforcement presence in the neighborhood while deputies secured the scene and conducted their investigation. Residents were asked to avoid the immediate area during the response.
