Miami, Florida — A Friday afternoon turned violent inside a busy Miami nail salon after a 23-year-old man allegedly shot his former girlfriend at her workplace, leaving her injured and coworkers traumatized. Authorities say the shooting followed weeks of harassment and occurred despite an active court order barring the suspect from possessing a firearm.
According to investigators with the Miami Police Department, the incident unfolded around 1:30 p.m. at a shopping plaza in the 3700 block of Northwest Seventh Street, a commercial area that includes several small businesses.
Police identified the suspect as Job Jocelyn, a Miami resident, who is now facing multiple felony charges in connection with the shooting.
Ongoing harassment before the shooting
Court documents state that Jocelyn and the victim were in a relationship for approximately three years before breaking up. The two do not share children.
After the relationship ended, the victim told police that Jocelyn repeatedly contacted her through texts and phone calls, pressuring her about their breakup and questioning her personal life. The situation escalated after Jocelyn learned she had been communicating with another man, according to the arrest report.
The victim said she warned Jocelyn to stop contacting her and told him she would notify law enforcement if the behavior continued. Despite that warning, police say Jocelyn went to her workplace days later.
Confrontation inside the salon
Investigators say Jocelyn entered the nail salon while the victim was working with customers. According to the arrest report, he confronted her directly and asked:
“Are you really calling the police?”
Moments later, police allege Jocelyn pulled out a firearm and shot the victim in the left thigh. The victim was able to flee toward the back of the salon as coworkers and customers reacted in panic.
Witnesses describe chaos and fear
Several witnesses provided statements to police describing the moments surrounding the shooting.
One salon employee told officers she was working on a client when she heard shouting and someone yelling for people to get out. She then saw the victim running back to her workstation, bleeding from her leg.

Another witness, who was receiving a pedicure, told police she saw Jocelyn walking down the salon hallway shortly before hearing the victim scream. The witness reported seeing Jocelyn briefly place the gun on the floor before picking it up again.
Police confirmed that surveillance video inside the business captured the shooting, which supported witness accounts.
Arrest and prior court order
Jocelyn was arrested later that day and transported to the city’s Domestic Violence Unit. According to police, he declined to answer questions and told a detective:
“I don’t want to talk about nothing; I just want to get up out of here.”
He was later booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he remains held without bond.
Authorities said Jocelyn is charged with attempted murder/aggravated battery and possession of a firearm in violation of a risk protection order.
Police confirmed there had been a previous domestic violence investigation involving the former couple, though that case was later closed. Importantly, Jocelyn was served with a risk protection order on May 8, 2025, which legally prohibited him from possessing a firearm.
Victim’s condition and ongoing investigation
The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment. Police did not release details about her current medical condition but confirmed her injuries were non-fatal.
Investigators continue reviewing evidence, including video footage and witness statements, as the case moves through the court system. Authorities have not indicated whether additional charges may be filed.
A broader warning about workplace violence
Law enforcement officials emphasized that domestic disputes can quickly escalate into public and workplace violence, urging individuals experiencing harassment or threats from former partners to seek help and document incidents early.
Police also stressed the importance of risk protection orders, noting that violations of such orders carry serious criminal consequences.
Jocelyn is expected to make his first court appearance in the coming days as prosecutors move forward with the case.
