Jamaica Estates, Queens — A Queens homeowner says a frightening early-morning home invasion ended without injuries after he confronted an intruder and scared the suspects away while his family slept upstairs.
The incident unfolded around 2:40 a.m. Tuesday inside a residence in Jamaica Estates, where the homeowner told authorities he heard unusual noise coming from downstairs shortly after getting up for water.
Intruder discovered inside home
The homeowner, 35-year-old Moshe Borukh, said he went to investigate and realized that someone had already entered the house. According to the homeowner, security camera footage later showed a suspect inside the kitchen using a phone flashlight while two additional individuals waited outside.
Authorities say the intruder appeared to be searching for a vehicle key fob, while other suspects were seen near a luxury car parked outside the home.
“I heard glass breaking and knew something wasn’t right,” Borukh said, recalling the moment he realized an intruder was inside the house.
Confrontation ends break-in
Borukh said he confronted the suspect, who immediately fled through the same window used to enter the home. The attempted burglary ended moments later, with no physical injuries reported.
“It was one of the scariest moments of my life,” he said. “My family was asleep, and I had to act quickly.”
The suspects reportedly ran from the scene, abandoning the attempt before police arrived.
Police investigate related activity nearby
After the homeowner contacted police, officers with the New York City Police Department responded and canvassed the area.
According to the homeowner, officers later told him they were also responding to another reported vehicle burglary several blocks away around the same time. Police believe the incidents may be connected as part of a broader pattern of overnight car thefts in the area.
Officials have not confirmed whether any arrests have been made.
Security footage shows suspected car theft attempt
Video from the home’s exterior cameras reportedly showed suspects tampering with the vehicle outside but failing to gain access before the confrontation occurred.
Borukh believes the neighborhood’s close access to major highways makes it attractive to car thieves who can quickly leave the area.
Residents in the area say they have noticed an increase in overnight vehicle-related crimes.
Family shaken after incident
While no one was injured, Borukh said the experience has left his family shaken. He said his wife remains anxious following the incident, and while their youngest child was shielded from details, their older children are aware something serious happened.
“It’s not easy to feel safe after something like this,” he said.

Homeowner urges community awareness
Borukh said he hopes sharing his experience will encourage neighbors to stay alert and understand their rights when it comes to home safety.
“People need to know what options they have to protect their families,” he said.
Police continue to urge residents to secure doors and windows, use outdoor lighting and cameras, and report suspicious activity immediately.
Investigation ongoing
Authorities have not released suspect descriptions but say the investigation remains active. Residents are encouraged to review security footage and contact police with any information that could assist detectives.
