Brooklyn Infant Found Dead Inside Duffel Bag, Mother Taken Into Custody

Brooklyn, New York — A 1-month-old baby was found dead inside a duffel bag at a Brooklyn residence over the weekend, leading to the arrest of a 25-year-old woman as authorities work to determine what happened in the hours before the child’s death.

Police said officers responded to a home on Veronica Place in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn on Saturday evening after receiving a request for a wellness check. When they arrived, officers discovered an infant inside the residence who was unconscious and unresponsive.

The baby, later identified as Adonnys Kendall, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not yet released an official cause of death, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Arrest Made During Winter Storm

Authorities said that on Sunday — as a winter snowstorm moved through the city — police took Gynae Kendall, 25, into custody. She was charged with concealing a human corpse, according to law enforcement officials.

Police did not immediately disclose whether Kendall is the child’s mother, nor did they provide details about how long the infant may have been deceased before officers arrived.

Attorney information for Kendall was not available as of Monday.

Discovery Inside the Home

Investigators confirmed that the baby was found inside a duffel bag within the Flatbush residence. Emergency responders attempted to assess the infant, but the child was pronounced dead at the home.

Officials have not said who placed the infant inside the bag or under what circumstances.

The New York City Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

Limited Details as Investigation Continues

Police have not released additional information about:

  • The events leading up to the infant’s death
  • The relationship between the suspect and the child
  • Whether other individuals were present in the home

Authorities said more charges could be filed depending on the outcome of the medical examiner’s findings and further investigation.

Community Impact and Ongoing Case

The case has drawn attention amid harsh winter conditions in New York City, with neighbors in the Flatbush area expressing shock as investigators continued working through the weekend.

Law enforcement officials emphasized that the investigation is still in its early stages and urged patience as they gather evidence and await autopsy results.

Anyone with information relevant to the case is encouraged to contact police.
