Stuart, Florida — Authorities in Martin County say two women were taken into custody after deputies recovered nearly $8,000 worth of stolen baby formula, part of what investigators believe was a coordinated retail theft effort spanning multiple stores.
The incident unfolded Wednesday after local police flagged suspicious activity involving two women who abruptly exited a retail location without making purchases. The situation quickly escalated into a broader investigation involving multiple agencies.
Deputies track suspects to Walgreens location
According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, patrol units were alerted to be on the lookout for a vehicle connected to the suspicious activity. Deputies soon located the car at a Walgreens near Salerno Road and Kanner Highway.
When detectives approached the store, the two suspects were seen exiting with bags packed with baby formula that had not been paid for, officials said.
Hundreds of cans recovered from vehicle
A search of the vehicle revealed dozens more cans of baby formula, adding to what had already been taken from inside the store. Deputies ultimately recovered approximately 160 cans, with an estimated total value of around $8,000.
Investigators say the quantity and packaging were consistent with organized retail theft rather than personal use.
Both suspects — identified as Summer Bryant, 36, and Andrea Williams, 38 — were arrested at the scene and booked into the Martin County Jail.
