Bronx, New York — A masked and hooded crew made off with approximately $14,000 worth of electronics during a late-night burglary at a Bronx charter school earlier this month, according to police and law enforcement sources.
The theft targeted the American Dream Charter School in Mott Haven, where investigators say the suspects exploited an open rooftop door to gain entry before fleeing with school-owned equipment.
How the break-in unfolded
Police say the burglary occurred at around 11:15 p.m. on January 4 at the school’s campus on East 141st Street near Brook Avenue. Surveillance images released by the NYPD show at least two suspects, faces partially concealed by masks and hoods.
Investigators believe the group entered through the roof and then moved through the building before exiting via the front door.
Authorities noted that the suspects appeared to act quickly and deliberately, suggesting they knew what they were looking for.
What was stolen
According to police and sources familiar with the investigation, the thieves stole a collection of electronics and equipment used by students and staff, including:
- Laptops
- Graphing calculators
- Speakers
- A walkie-talkie
The total estimated value of the stolen items is about $14,000, officials said.
Surveillance images show unusual escape
NYPD-released surveillance images show the suspects rolling the stolen items out on office chairs, an unusual detail that stood out to investigators reviewing the footage.
Despite the clear images, the suspects remain at large, and no arrests have been announced so far.

No known connection to the school
Police say it is unclear whether the suspects are students or have any direct connection to the charter school, which serves grades 6 through 12. Investigators are continuing to review footage and follow leads to determine how the rooftop door was left unsecured.

The NYPD is asking anyone with information about the burglary or the suspects’ whereabouts to come forward.
