Columbus, Ohio — Family members have launched a fundraiser to support the two young children left behind after a beloved Ohio dentist and his wife were found fatally shot inside their home, a case that continues to raise questions nearly a week later.
Authorities say Spencer Tepe, 37, and his wife Monique Tepe, 39, were discovered dead inside their Columbus residence on Tuesday, December 30, according to the Columbus Police Department. Both had suffered gunshot wounds, police confirmed at the time.
Children found inside home but physically unharmed
The couple’s two young children were inside the home when the bodies were discovered. While officials said the children were not physically injured, emergency recordings suggest they were experiencing extreme emotional distress.
911 calls reveal the children could be heard crying inside the house as loved ones waited outside for police to conduct a welfare check.
The children’s ages have not been publicly released.
Disturbing 911 audio details chaotic moments
Audio from a 911 call made by a friend of Spencer Tepe, later cited by CNN, captures the tense moments before police entered the home. The caller was outside the residence with several of Spencer’s co-workers.
“I can hear kids inside, and I swear I think I heard one yell,” the caller told dispatchers. “But we can’t get in. At this point, I don’t know if I need to break the door in to get in the house or what.”
Police ultimately entered the home and made the grim discovery.
Fundraiser set up to support children’s future
Nearly a week after the killings, family members announced a fundraiser to provide long-term support for the children, who are now without both parents.
The GoFundMe campaign was organized by Audrey Tepe Mackie, a family member, who described Spencer and Monique as deeply devoted parents.
“They were the proud parents of two beautiful children, and every day they showed up with unwavering love and devotion to their family,” Mackie wrote.
She added that the funds will help provide stability, care, and essential support for the children, as well as assist relatives who are now responsible for raising them.
“The abrupt loss of Spencer and Monique has changed daily life in ways that are still unfolding,” she wrote.
As of Monday, the fundraiser had already raised more than $140,000, reflecting an outpouring of support from the community.
Investigation continues with few details released
Despite the high-profile nature of the case, police have released very limited information as the investigation continues.
No suspect or person of interest has been publicly identified, and authorities have not commented on a possible motive.
Nearly a week after the killings, police remain tight-lipped, and the Columbus Police Department has not responded to requests for additional information.
