Texas Woman Charged After Allegedly Throwing 25-Pound Weight Plate During Gym Altercation

Spring, Texas — A 24-year-old woman is facing a felony aggravated assault charge after authorities say she threw a 25-pound weight plate at another woman inside a local gym, allegedly targeting someone she believed was involved with her partner.

The incident occurred inside a 24 Hour Fitness location in Spring, according to the Harris County Constable Precinct 4 Office.

Altercation inside gym prompts police response

Deputies were dispatched to the gym after receiving reports of an assault. When they arrived, investigators learned that a confrontation had unfolded between two women inside the facility.

According to a press release from the constable’s office, the suspect recognized the complainant as “someone her partner was involved with,” which allegedly triggered the incident.

Authorities identified the suspect as Aralyn Martinez, 24.

Weight plate allegedly used as weapon

Charging documents allege that Martinez picked up a 25-pound weight plate and threw it toward the complainant’s head during the confrontation.

Prosecutors allege Martinez intentionally and knowingly threatened imminent bodily injury by using the heavy plate as a weapon.

“Bitch, I’m going to drop this plate on you,” Martinez allegedly said moments before throwing it, according to court documents.

The victim reportedly moved out of the way just in time, avoiding physical injury.

Incident captured on video

A personal bond and bail order states that the incident was captured on cell phone video, which investigators later reviewed as part of the case.

Officials said the situation did not escalate further because nearby gym patrons intervened, preventing additional violence.

“This could have ended much worse if others had not stepped in,” a law enforcement official told local media.

Arrest made day after incident

Martinez reportedly left the gym shortly after the confrontation. She was arrested the following day, January 7, and booked into the Harris County Jail, according to court records.

She was formally charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony under Texas law.

Bond conditions and alcohol allegation

Court records show Martinez was released on a $1,000 bond. An amended pretrial supervision order notes that alcohol may have been a factor in the offense.

As part of her bond conditions, Martinez has been ordered to:

  • Stay at least 200 feet away from the alleged victim
  • Avoid the gym where the incident occurred
  • Submit to drug and alcohol testing by authorized personnel

Violating any of these conditions could result in her bond being revoked.

Court date scheduled

Martinez’s arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, January 22, according to court documents. It was not immediately clear whether she has retained legal counsel or entered a plea.

Safety concerns raised

The incident has raised concerns about conflict escalation in public spaces, particularly in gyms where heavy equipment can quickly become dangerous if misused.

Law enforcement officials emphasized that objects not designed as weapons can still qualify as deadly weapons when used in a manner capable of causing serious bodily injury.

As the case moves forward, authorities say the video evidence and witness statements will play a key role. What are your thoughts on how gyms and other public spaces should handle escalating personal disputes? Share your perspective in the comments.
