Deadly Porch Encounter Leaves Three Found Dead Inside Piscataway Home, Investigation Ongoing

Piscataway, New Jersey — A quiet residential neighborhood in Piscataway was shaken after a police encounter on a home’s front porch ended in deadly force and led to the discovery of three people found dead inside the house, authorities confirmed.

The incident unfolded near the intersection of Mitchell Avenue and River Road, where police responded to an emergency call reporting a man inside a home armed with a knife. What officers encountered next has triggered a multi-agency investigation and left residents stunned.

According to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, officers arrived at the scene after receiving a 911 call from a man who said someone was inside the residence wielding a knife.

Police encounter suspect holding knife on porch

Law enforcement officials said that when officers reached the location, they observed a man standing on the porch of the home holding a knife. The suspect’s identity has not yet been released.

Rather than complying with commands, the man fled from the porch, prompting officers to pursue him on foot. Authorities say the situation escalated rapidly as the chase moved into the street.

“They told him to stop several times; they gave him commands to stop,” said a nearby resident who witnessed part of the incident.

Police attempted to de-escalate the encounter using Tasers, but officials said those efforts were unsuccessful.

Suspect shot after charging at officers

According to law enforcement sources, the confrontation reached a critical point when the suspect charged toward the officers while still armed.

With Tasers failing to stop the advance, officers fired their weapons, fatally shooting the man in the street outside the home.

Officials emphasized that the use of deadly force occurred only after verbal commands and less-lethal options were exhausted, though the full sequence of events remains under investigation.

The officers involved have not been publicly identified.

Three people found dead inside the home

Following the shooting, officers entered the residence and made a disturbing discovery. Authorities confirmed that three additional individuals were found deceased inside the home.

Their identities and causes of death have not yet been released, and investigators have not publicly stated whether the deaths occurred before or during the police response.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office is now leading the investigation into the deaths inside the residence, while state officials review the officer-involved shooting.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation,” officials said, noting that more details will be released when appropriate.

Neighborhood left stunned by violence

Residents in the area described the neighborhood as peaceful and family-oriented, making the events even more difficult to process.

“This is a really nice neighborhood,” said a local resident. “I never saw anything bad at the other house.”

Neighbors reported a heavy police presence following the incident, with streets temporarily closed as investigators secured the scene and gathered evidence.

For many in the community, the sudden violence has raised concerns about safety and unanswered questions about what led up to the deadly encounter.

Authorities release limited information as probe continues

Officials have so far declined to release the names of the civilians found dead or the officers involved in the shooting. The suspect killed by police has also not been publicly identified.

The Piscataway Police Department is cooperating with state and county authorities as required under New Jersey protocols for officer-involved shootings.

Under state guidelines, such incidents are typically reviewed by independent investigators to determine whether police actions complied with policy and law.

Multiple investigations underway

At this stage, investigators are working to piece together several critical questions, including:

  • What happened inside the home before police arrived
  • The relationship, if any, between the suspect and the three deceased individuals
  • Whether there were prior calls for service at the residence
  • The timeline of events leading to the fatal confrontation

Officials stressed that releasing incomplete details could compromise the investigation, urging the public to be patient as facts are verified.

As the investigation continues, authorities say their focus remains on determining exactly what occurred and ensuring transparency once findings are confirmed.
