Piscataway, New Jersey — A quiet residential neighborhood in Piscataway was shaken after a police encounter on a home’s front porch ended in deadly force and led to the discovery of three people found dead inside the house, authorities confirmed.
The incident unfolded near the intersection of Mitchell Avenue and River Road, where police responded to an emergency call reporting a man inside a home armed with a knife. What officers encountered next has triggered a multi-agency investigation and left residents stunned.
According to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, officers arrived at the scene after receiving a 911 call from a man who said someone was inside the residence wielding a knife.
Police encounter suspect holding knife on porch
Law enforcement officials said that when officers reached the location, they observed a man standing on the porch of the home holding a knife. The suspect’s identity has not yet been released.
Rather than complying with commands, the man fled from the porch, prompting officers to pursue him on foot. Authorities say the situation escalated rapidly as the chase moved into the street.
“They told him to stop several times; they gave him commands to stop,” said a nearby resident who witnessed part of the incident.
Police attempted to de-escalate the encounter using Tasers, but officials said those efforts were unsuccessful.
Suspect shot after charging at officers
According to law enforcement sources, the confrontation reached a critical point when the suspect charged toward the officers while still armed.
With Tasers failing to stop the advance, officers fired their weapons, fatally shooting the man in the street outside the home.
