Las Vegas, Nevada — A fast-food employee was allegedly stabbed multiple times during a violent confrontation at a Las Vegas Kentucky Fried Chicken location, after a customer reportedly became upset over his gravy order, according to police and court records.
Authorities say the incident unfolded late last month and escalated rapidly, ending with two relatives facing attempted murder charges.
Argument inside restaurant turns violent
The incident occurred on December 27 at a KFC restaurant in Las Vegas. According to reports cited by local media, officers responded to the scene after receiving calls that a customer had stabbed a worker during a dispute.
Police detained four individuals at the location while securing the scene. During the investigation, officers allegedly found a large folding knife in the pocket of one of the suspects.
The suspects were later identified as James Carter, 48, and Gerald Carter, 32, who authorities say are uncle and nephew.
Dispute reportedly centered on gravy order
According to a police report obtained by local outlets, one of the individuals detained told officers that the confrontation began after Gerald Carter became upset about his gravy.
The report states that Gerald allegedly left the restaurant after purchasing food, then returned multiple times, growing increasingly agitated. He reportedly claimed that staff members had “disrespected him” during the exchange.
“The suspect stated he felt disrespected by staff,” the police report noted.
Authorities say Gerald’s anger escalated after repeated interactions with employees, eventually leading him to return to the restaurant with his uncle.
Surveillance footage shows alleged attack
Investigators say surveillance video from inside the restaurant captured the two men going behind the counter, where the confrontation turned violent.
According to police, Gerald was allegedly seen stabbing the employee multiple times, while James Carter allegedly placed the worker in a severe chokehold for several seconds.
“The victim was restrained while being attacked,” the report stated.
Emergency responders transported the injured employee to a local hospital for treatment. Officials have not released details about the worker’s current condition.
Suspect denies using knife despite evidence
During questioning, Gerald Carter reportedly admitted that he was involved in a physical altercation with the employee but denied using the knife, telling officers that it remained in his pocket throughout the incident.
He also claimed that the worker had been calling him names and disrespecting him, which he said triggered the confrontation.
Investigators, however, cited surveillance footage and witness statements that contradicted that version of events.
Arrests and charges filed
Both men were arrested and booked on attempted murder charges, according to court records.
A Las Vegas judge later ordered:
- Gerald Carter held on $100,000 bail
- James Carter held on $10,000 bail
If released on bond, both men will be required to wear ankle monitors, court officials confirmed.

Police stress seriousness of workplace violence
Authorities emphasized the severity of the attack, noting that the use of a weapon and the coordinated nature of the assault significantly elevated the charges.
While investigators have not released additional details about the employee’s recovery, they confirmed the incident remains under active review.
Law enforcement officials also reiterated that disputes inside businesses should never escalate into violence.
“Disagreements do not justify physical attacks,” officials said.
Investigation ongoing
Police continue to review surveillance footage, witness statements, and medical reports as part of the ongoing investigation. Prosecutors are expected to present further evidence as the case moves through the court system.
No additional suspects are currently being sought.
The incident has raised renewed concerns about employee safety in customer-facing jobs, particularly in fast-food settings where workers frequently deal with confrontational situations.
Authorities urge anyone with additional information about the incident to contact local law enforcement.
